Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis unveiled measures against central Athens apartments rented to 20–30 immigrants for €10–30 per night.
The government will prohibit such rentals and subleases while ELAS launches simultaneous eviction operations and square policing.
“Those who commit crimes and are not remanded, even with restrictive conditions, must leave Greece,” he said. Detention centers for deportees will hold those who arrived and committed crimes.
In areas like Patisia and Agios Panteleimonas, apartments are sublet nightly, causing severe overcrowding. Chrysochoidis stressed that many foreigners in the center came to commit crimes, not work, and pledged stronger security in high-foreigner neighborhoods.
On phone scams, he reported frequent arrests of Roma running call centers and a forthcoming law making these felonies—especially against the elderly or minors—even for small amounts.
