A BIG change in the weather for the Costa Blanca and Valencia region is predicted this weekend with a chance of ‘gota fria’ storms and below-average temperatures.
Early projections from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) suggest torrential rain with significant accumulations starting on Saturday afternoon and lasting as long as Tuesday.
Aemet has described the predicted rainfall as ‘intense and persistent’.

200mm of rain could fall along the coast and over 500mm around Valencia by next Thursday(October 22).
The extreme weather is down to an anticyclone positioning itself over the British Isles.
Aemet’s head forecaster in the Valencian Community, Jose Angel Nuñez said that a mass of cold air will slide through the south of the anticyclone, ending up in atmospheric instability.
“With today’s data, the first phase would mainly affect the southern half of Valencia province and Alicante, but the uncertainties are still high,” he stated.

But there are still question marks in various mapping scenarios from the forecasters about where the rain will be dumped.
A change in the predicted wind direction could move the front northwards towards Catalunya, and as yet no formal warnings have been issued by Aemet.
Meteored forecaster, Samual Biener has warned that ‘a low could bring a radical change in weather to Spain from Saturday’.
Very mild temperatures will continue until Friday with values up to 4C higher than the mid-October norm.
Then the British Isles anticyclone will bring in cold air from the north-east into Spain with a big fall in temperatures from Saturday.
Early suggestions are of 25C highs that day, falling to 21C on Sunday, coupled with heavy rain.
Samuel Biener added that he expected at least one DANA storm to be formed over the weekend.
