CANCÚN · Culture
A week-long rock festival at a resort, a symphony in a cenote and free theatre downtown. The rest of the month, day by day.
CANCÚN — This guide is for people who live here, not weekend tourists. It covers things to do in Cancún in October 2026 from Friday 16 October to Halloween, with venues, dates and practical notes for expats and long-stay visitors.
October in Cancún is hot, humid and often wet, with brief heavy showers and the tail end of hurricane season. The Atlantic season officially runs until 30 November, so keep an eye on weather alerts before planning outdoor events.
The month has a clear shape. Free municipal and cultural events fill the first weekend of this guide, the big rock festival takes over a hotel-zone resort from 20 to 25 October, and Halloween falls on Saturday 31 October before Día de Muertos on 1 and 2 November.
Mexico’s federal mandatory-rest-day list does not include 12 October 2026; after 16 September, the next generally applicable federal mandatory rest day is 16 November 2026, followed by 25 December 2026. That means banks and most shops keep normal hours through the rest of October.
Friday 16 to Sunday 18 October: Free Culture Downtown
Cancún’s municipal programme leans on free events at Teatro de la Ciudad, the city’s main theatre in the centre. Prices below are as listed by the Riviera Lowdown events calendar, with pesos converted at about 18.4 pesos per US dollar (RT spot, 15 October 2026).

The Sands Rocks at Paradisus: 20 to 25 October
The biggest music event of the month is not a normal concert. SANDS 2026 is an adults-only private event that takes over the Paradisus Cancún resort in the hotel zone from Tuesday 20 to Sunday 25 October 2026, with attendance limited to 1,200 guests.
The announced line-up is Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Bobby Brown, Queensrÿche, Cutting Crew, Dishwalla, Winger, Sheila E. and The Smithereens. Tickets are sold as resort packages through the organiser at thesands.rocks, not as single-night entries, and the organiser has not published a day-by-day running order.
During SANDS, 20 to 25 October
Cutting Crew at The Sands
Paradisus Cancún, hotel zone · Package price on the organiser’s site
The British band behind the 1980s hit “(I Just) Died in Your Arms” lists this show on its own tour page. Because the festival is a private package, residents cannot simply buy a ticket for one night at the door.
Late October: A Symphony in a Cenote and Halloween
Friday 30 October
Symphony in a Cenote
Fairmont Mayakoba, Riviera Maya near Playa del Carmen · Hotel booking
The hotel announced a one-night orchestral concert inside a cenote, limited to 50 guests, with private transport from the resort. Ask the hotel on +52 984 206 3000 for the current booking terms, because its own event page still says details are coming soon.
Halloween falls on Saturday 31 October. Many bars, hotels and expat groups host parties that night, so book tables early and expect higher prices for taxis late in the evening.
Planning your Cancún in October
Carry an umbrella and expect sudden downpours, especially later in the day. Tropical systems can bring longer rain, so check forecasts before travelling far.
Downtown venues such as Teatro de la Ciudad and Parque de Las Palapas are in the centre of the city. The hotel zone, where Paradisus and the marina sit, is a taxi or bus ride away.
Getting around at night is easiest by taxi or ride-hailing app, though availability can be patchy late in the evening. Agree a fare before you get in, or use an app that shows the price first.
Smaller venues often take cash only, so carry some pesos. For paid events, buy from the venue or organiser, because Mexican listings change dates and prices at short notice.
Día de Muertos is on 1 and 2 November. Altars and decorations begin to appear in public spaces in the last days of October.
