The qualifying event ensure fairness and only the best athlete chosen for the SEA Games
TWO male and two female marathon runners will battle for places at the 2027 SEA Games through a qualifying race scheduled to take place in Putrajaya in early April.
Acting Malaysian Athletics (MA) president Datuk Wan Hisham Wan Salleh said the qualifying event would be open to the top five male and female finishers from the 2025 and 2026 Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon (KLSCM), as well as other runners who meet the qualifying criteria set by the association.
“The event will take place sometime in the first half of April 2027, most probably in Putrajaya,” he said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Wan Hisham said MA would provide additional support to the top five finishers from KLSCM 2026 to help them prepare for the qualifying race.
