Mass General Brigham recently hosted a sleep health education event at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, attended by more than 60 local healthcare professionals.
A spokesperson said, “More than 60 local healthcare professionals attended Sleep Health at Every Age: Assessment and Management, a Continuing Medical Education event presented by Mass General Brigham at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute earlier this month.
“The evening’s programme brought experts from Mass General Brigham together with local healthcare professionals to discuss sleep health and sleep disorders across all ages. Sessions covered sleep health in adults, children and adolescents, as well as the assessment and treatment of obstructive sleep apnoea.
“The speakers from Boston were Dr James Mojica, Clinical Director and Vice Chief of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital; Dr Bernard Kinane, Chief of the Pediatric Pulmonary Unit and Director of the Sleep Pediatric Program at Mass General Brigham for Children; and Dr Phillip Huyett, Director of Sleep Surgery at Mass Eye and Ear.
“The speakers shared practical approaches to recognising sleep disorders, evaluating patients and deciding when treatment or specialist referral may be needed. The programme also covered behavioural approaches, devices, medications and surgical treatment options.
“The educational programme included an interactive panel discussion, Q&A and case discussions with the visiting faculty and local healthcare providers. Attendees then joined the speakers and the Mass General Brigham team for a social dinner catered by Harbourfront Restaurant.”
“It was a pleasure to connect with Bermuda’s healthcare community and work alongside local providers to share our experience and tools for recognising and treating sleep disorders,” said Dr James Mojica. “Opportunities like this allow us to exchange knowledge, share the latest advances in sleep medicine and empower local clinicians with useful tools to support their patients.”
“It was really useful to hear directly from specialists in sleep medicine and to bring that knowledge back to our local practice,” said Dr Kimberly Foley, MD Consultant Pulmonologist and owner of The Pulmonology Specialists Bermuda. “The practical discussion around recognising sleep disorders and treatment options was particularly enlightening.”
