Former director Nigerian Navy Accoutnts, Rear Admiral Tahir Yusuf (rtd) has dismissed a report by an online newspaper, SaharaReporters, that he was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged N2 billion fraud.
The report claimed that Admiral Yusuf was sighted moving freely in Nigeria, after the anti-graft agency told a Federal High Court in Abuja that he was on the run and could not be reached.
The medium claimed in its report that the EFCC had on October 2022 told the court that Yusuf was on the run, a claim the ex-naval officer rebuffed as fals and unfounded.
Citing purported sources, SaharaReporters reported that the retired senior naval officer was seen last week in a residential area of Kaduna state, the same city where it claimed the EFCC sealed several properties linked to him.
Reacting to the report, however, Yusuf said property was his while his ex-wife, Zainab Wantdi Yombe, took charge and was collecting rents from tenants she put in them, a situation he said was not part of his life as a philanthropist.
“The property in question belongs to me, Real Admiral B.T Yusuf (rtd).
“Unfortunately, my ex-wife, Zainab Wantadi Yombe, put tenants there and was collecting rent from them, hence l don’t usually put tenants in my property to collect rents from them.
“As a philanthropist, I provide shelters to the less privileged. I do help the poor. I became annoyed when I noticed that my ex-wife, Zainab was collecting rent from the tenants, I decided to relocate the tenants to my other house free of charge because I decided to take control of the house myself.
“I never insulted any one of the tenants as claimed in the the video post because the tenants are in my second house.
“Therefore, the claim by SaharaReporters that EFCC are looking for me are false.
“I, Real Admiral B.T. Yusuf is never and will never be a bad man based on the way I was brought up.
“All in Zaria and other parts of Nigeria can attest to my character. The video post by Sahara reporter is opposite of me,” the officer claimed.
