KUALA LUMPUR: Pahang Civil Defence Force (APM) director Col (PA) Che Adam A Rahman has earned a place in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) after completing a blood donation mission across 15 major cities nationwide.
He received recognition under the First to Complete Blood Donation in All Capital Cities category after completing the mission, which began in 2023 and covered 13 states and two federal territories.
Che Adam said the initiative, titled My Blood Donation Trans City: Infaq Darah Demi Ummah, aimed to encourage regular blood donation, particularly among young people and first-time donors.
“Our main objective is to make blood donation a habit among young people, especially those who have never donated before,” he told reporters after receiving his MBOR certificate at the National Blood Centre here today.
The ceremony was attended by APM Chief Commissioner Mohammad Abiddin Abd Rahman, National Blood Centre director Dr Nor Nazahah Mahmud and MBOR official Hajar Johor.
Che Adam said the campaign also attracted the participation of nearly 200 APM personnel in the states and districts visited.
He stressed the importance of regular blood donations to maintain adequate supplies, particularly during festive seasons and long holidays, and to meet demand for surgeries, accident victims, and patients with thalassaemia and anaemia.
“We hope this project will encourage young people and the wider public to donate blood consistently, ideally every three months, to ensure sufficient supplies at blood transfusion centres nationwide,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Nor Nazahah said partnerships between the National Blood Centre and agencies such as APM were crucial to raising public awareness of blood donation.
She said representatives from government agencies and non-governmental organisations could serve as ambassadors or spokespersons to promote blood donation more effectively.
Malaysia’s blood donation rate currently stands at 2.3 per cent, with a target of three per cent by 2030, she said, adding that achieving this would require stronger promotional efforts involving various organisations.
