Michigan Tech has already pulled off the upset of the season in the GLIAC, and the Huskies will try to top it Saturday against No. 1 Ferris State.
The two-time defending national champions have won 37 games in a row but are coming off their closest game in about a year, a 41-34 triumph in their annual rivalry game against Grand Valley State.
That was the second consecutive loss for the Lakers, who fell the previous week at Michigan Tech in overtime. GVSU was ranked No. 6 in Division II at the time, and that victory combined with last weekend's rout of Northern Michigan have helped the Huskies move up to No. 12 in the AFCA poll.
Twin brothers Elliott and Abram Larner power the Michigan Tech offense along with Elliott's fellow quarterback Alex Bueno. Elliott Larner is the Huskies' running QB, leading the team with 567 yards and 14 TDs on the ground at 6.5 yards per carry (plus 496 more yards through the air). Bueno is the primary passer, racking up 675 yards through the air and seven TDs. Abram Larner is the top target for both QBs with 37 receptions for 588 yards and eight touchdowns.
Ferris knows plenty about dual-threat quarterbacks, as Wyatt Bower is in the midst of another spectacular season. The redshirt freshman has 1,980 yards and 21 TDs through the air, plus 800 yards and 15 more touchdowns on the ground. Add in Chase Carter's 1,181 rushing and 972 passing yards with 33 total TDs and the Bulldogs have two top-end QBs.
It's a lot to stop, and no one has managed to do it yet, but Michigan Tech will give it a shot Saturday. Here's all you need to know to watch.
