ORCHARD PARK - Josh Allen banged his hand in Week 1 against Houston, he took a shot to the knee in Week 2 against Detroit, and then took another blow to the knee in Week 3 against the Chargers, but the Buffalo Bills quarterback said Thursday that he’s perfectly fine, contrary to what the internet doctors are saying.
“I feel good,” Allen said with a smile, so all you can do is take his word for it, even though you know that the way he plays, he’s definitely banged up just four weeks into the season.
“Listen, there's a fine line between it all,” he said of his playing style. “It's no secret between being courageous and being reckless. Sometimes you have to toe that line, given the circumstance of the game and the flows. And there's obviously times during the game where you don't want to do that.”
The reason this came up during his mid-week media session is because in the Bills’ Week 4 loss to the Patriots, Allen was curiously absent from the running game as he carried just five times for four yards. And there was a weird play early in the fourth quarter where he rolled out and looked like he was going to run, but then gave up on the play and took a knee for a three-yard loss.
That put the Bills third-and-10 at the Patriots’ 20 and they had to settle for a Tyler Bass field goal, leaving them trailing 21-20. The play raised suspicion about his physical state, but he pooh poohed all of it Thursday.
Assuming he’s not covering up an injury, the Bills need their superstar to be a superstar as they take on the Rams at SoFi Stadium Monday night in a game where it certainly seems like Buffalo is going to score and score often to keep pace with a dangerous Los Angeles offense.
And then every situation is an opportunity to learn from. And sitting here, 3-1 in our first four, we're not focused on what we did last week or what's ahead next week. We're focused on this week right now and just trying to have the best week of practice. Obviously traveling out, we're playing Monday night. That's an exciting opportunity against a really good team. So just putting our best foot forward this week.

Across the last two games, the Bills have scored 50 points, pushing their NFL-leading total to 127, but there were clearly issues, the whole thing looked disjointed in both games, and it started with Allen who was not the same player he was in the first two games when he shredded the Texans and Lions.
“It's a plethora of things, starts with me making the right calls, the right checks, getting us into the right runs, finding completions early on,” Allen said. “We feel like when we have a game like that, everyone can look at themselves and point the thumb and say, ‘I can be better in some aspects.’ So that's all we're trying to do right now is individually find ways to get better and learn from this last game and put it to use on Monday night.”
