The Coimbatore Corporation will organise a five-day special medical camp in areas where rainwater stagnated following the recent heavy rain to prevent monsoon-related infections.
The camps are being conducted by the Corporation’s public health department through its 33 urban primary health centres. Medical teams are visiting the affected areas to examine residents for fever and other illnesses and provide medicines. Those requiring further investigation are referred to government hospitals for blood tests and treatment.
On the first day, October 20, a total of 1,813 people benefited from the camps. Nine people were found to have fever and were referred to government medical facilities for blood tests.
Residents were advised to drink only boiled and cooled water to prevent waterborne diseases, including diarrhoea, typhoid, jaundice and leptospirosis. Health inspectors tested chlorine levels in drinking water to ensure its safety. Cleaning drives were also conducted, and disinfectants were sprayed in the affected areas.
Oral rehydration salts (ORS) and kabasura kudineer were distributed to residents.
