Timex is bringing its Q 1978 Day Date Fumé Reissue to the US, UK, and EU, and the retro dress watch looks especially good in brown and gold. With a smoky gradient dial, a 37mm gold-tone case, and a crocodile-grain leather strap, it delivers plenty of vintage charm for $219.
Timex isn’t wasting much time bringing its latest vintage-inspired watch to more markets. After debuting two new Q 1978 Day Date models in India, the American watchmaker has officially launched the brown-and-gold variant in the US, UK, and EU, complete with a smoky gradient dial. And for a watch that costs less than $220, it has quite the vintage charm.
The new Q Timex 1978 Day Date Fumé Reissue (TW2Y87200) is now officially available in the US, the UK, and the EU for $219 / £180 / €209. There's also a second variant that's currently only available in India.
It features a blue gradient dial, a silver-tone stainless-steel case, and a matching blue leather strap with a faux crocodile texture. Timex says it plans to launch the blue variant in the US and other markets soon, although pricing and an exact launch date remain unconfirmed. If you prefer your retro watches with a little less gold, it might be worth waiting for that one.
The brown model pairs a smoky brown fumé dial with applied gold-tone hour markers and matching hands. The dial transitions between darker chocolate tones and warmer brown shades, while the day and date display at 3 o’clock adds a practical touch. The faceted baton indices feature black-filled grooves, and the beveled hands give the watch a little extra depth.
The watch comes in a 37mm polished stainless-steel case with a gold-tone finish, sculpted lugs, and a raised acrylic crystal that helps preserve its vintage charm. It’s paired with a brown natural leather strap featuring a crocodile-grain texture and quick-release spring bars for easy swapping. Inside, a battery-powered quartz movement keeps things simple, while 50 meters of water resistance should handle everyday splashes and occasional swims.
The Q Timex 1978 Day Date Reissue first arrived in 2021, joining a growing collection of archive-inspired watches that helped fuel Timex’s comeback. The lineup has since welcomed several additions, including the Q Timex Red Vega, famously worn by John Travolta in Pulp Fiction.
