Jimmy Anderson’s long career is finally at an end at the age of 44 after Lancashire declined to offer him a new contract for the 2027 season.
Anderson, who took a record 704 Test wickets for England and this summer collected 50 wickets for Lancashire at 17 each in Division Two of the County Championship, was told earlier this week by the club’s new chief executive, Richard Kenyon, and their new director of cricket, Paul Farbrace, that his time at Old Trafford was over.
Daily Mail Sport understands that Anderson will not look to extend a county career that began in 2001, bringing to an end one of the modern game’s great fast-bowling stories.
In all, he took 1,193 first-class wickets at 24 each, as well as 358 in one-day cricket and 71 in T20s.
