The Adenta-Abokobi Divisional Police Command says it is investigating a shooting incident involving a Police officer at Ritz Junction, which left two persons with gunshot wounds.
According to a police statement, preliminary investigations indicate that on Sunday, 11th October 2026, a confrontation ensued between General Sergeant Mathew Aboase, stationed at Madina Police Station, and some of the drivers of the Ritz Junction Taxi Drivers Union.
During the exchange, the statement said the drivers attempted to disarm the officer, who allegedly threatened them with his pistol.
In the process, the weapon accidentally discharged, resulting in gunshot injuries to two persons who were nearby, it said.
The two victims, Doe Asinyo, who sustained a gunshot wound to the left thigh, and Gifty Nyimahen, aged 34, who sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen, were rushed to the Madina Pentecost Hospital for treatment. Doe Asinyo was treated and discharged, while Gifty Nyimahen was admitted and later referred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
"The officer involved was arrested and is in Police custody pending further investigations, and the service pistol has been retained for evidential purposes," the statement said.
