The Traffic Department of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) advises all business owners, commercial operators, and private individuals to desist from the unlawful practice of placing traffic cones, chairs, stools, buckets, and other physical objects on public roads and curbs to reserve parking spaces or block thoroughfares.
This unauthorised practice has become increasingly prevalent, infringing upon the public’s right to unhindered access to public infrastructure. The Royal Grenada Police Force reminds members of the public that public roadways are intended for the safe and equal transit of all road users and must not be used to reserve parking spaces for private or commercial purposes.
Under Section 78(5) of the Road Traffic Act (Cap. 289A of Volume 12 of the 2010 Continuous (Revised Edition) of the Laws of Grenada, it is explicitly stipulated that no person other than the licensing authority or authorised government agency may erect, place, or mark any traffic sign, barrier, or directional device on or near any public road. The placement of makeshift barricades, furniture, or commercial signage by unauthorised entities constitutes a direct violation of the law.
Business establishments and residents are strongly urged to remove all unauthorised obstructions immediately and refrain from engaging in this practice. The cooperation of the public is essential to maintaining safer roads, ensuring the smooth flow of traffic, and preserving orderly and accessible public spaces for all.
