Thanks to donations from Latvian residents at automatic bottle deposit machines, the Entrepreneurs for Peace Foundation ('Uzņēmēji mieram') has bought two 'ground drones' for the defenders of Ukraine, specifically designed for the evacuation of wounded soldiers from the battlefield.
This technology allows the wounded to be rescued remotely, without exposing rescue crews to additional danger. Both drones will soon go on their first missions.
Ground drones are becoming an increasingly important form of assistance for Ukraine's defenders. In conditions where enemy drones are constantly operating on the battlefield, the evacuation of the wounded is especially dangerous. Remotely operated ground vehicles allow the wounded to be transported to a safer place without risking additional human lives.
“We see that this technology is very important in saving and protecting the lives of soldiers. These drones were created thanks to people who left their donations in the vending machines. Every bottle donated in Latvia has become part of a ground drone that saves the lives of Ukrainian soldiers. This is a very concrete example of how a seemingly small donation can provide truly significant help in everyday life,” said Laura Skrodele, director of the “Entrepreneurs for Peace” foundation.
The ground drones purchased in Ukraine are built on an extended quadricycle platform, equipped with all-wheel drive and capsule for transporting the wounded. The drones can evacuate people weighing up to 200 kilogrammes, while with a full fuel tank they can cover a distance of up to 200 kilometres.
During the handover of the drones, Ukrainian soldiers emphasized their important role in evacuating the wounded.
"These ground drones will give us the opportunity to evacuate our guys from positions without sending a crew with people to the firing line. Our soldiers will be able to be safe and evacuate people remotely. This will make it possible to protect people's lives," said a representative of the Ukrainian brigade, thanking the Entrepreneurs for Peace Foundation and the people of Latvia for the support provided.
From deposit packaging to frontline assistance
The Latvian deposit system gives citizens the opportunity to donate the deposit fees for returned packages to support Ukraine instead of taking store vouchers for themselves. Such small donations from many people add up to significant funding for practical assistance to the defenders of Ukraine against Russian barbarity.
The Entrepreneurs for Peace Foundation, in collaboration with the Deposit Packaging Operator, is turning these donations into much-needed aid for Ukrainian soldiers.
"The gratitude of Ukrainian soldiers is addressed to every Latvian resident who continues to help. This support is not just financial - it gives the defenders of Ukraine the opportunity to carry out their tasks more safely and return wounded comrades from the battlefield," said Laura Skrodele.
The Entrepreneurs for Peace Foundation also thanked all Latvian residents who donate deposit fees to support Ukraine, as well as the Deposit Packaging Operator for their cooperation and the opportunity to provide practical assistance to Ukrainian defenders through the deposit system.
"Entrepreneurs for Peace" is a foundation established by Latvian entrepreneurs that provides practical support to Ukraine and its defenders by attracting donations from companies and the public and organizing the necessary aid deliveries.
