THE Department of Transportation (DoTr) said it is developing bus rapid transit (BRT) systems for Iloilo, Bataan and Pangasinan.
Undersecretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure Mark Steven C. Pastor said: “The (DoTr) is building on our experience with the public transport modernization (and) advancing the development of these additional bus rapid transit systems.”
Mr. Pastor was speaking during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Transportation Forum 2026 last week.
The projects are meant to deliver a high-capacity public transport system tailored to the passenger volume demand in the provinces, he said, adding that the project will complement the existing transport networks.
At the same time, the DoTr is also planning to develop the National Capital Region (NCR) Busway.
The proposed NCR Busway Project or the high-quality bus services in Greater Metro Manila project aims to replicate the EDSA Busway by integrating it with rail, terminals, and major activity centers.
It is also expediting the construction of transport terminals, with the Ilocos Norte transport hub and parking building expected to be fully operational by the fourth quarter of 2027.
Mr. Pastor said the Taguig City Integrated Terminal Exchange (TCITx) is targeted for completion by the end of next year.
The TCITx project was awarded to Ayala Land, Inc. (ALI) and is expected to be fully operational by the first quarter of 2028. Located at ALI’s Arca South mixed-use development, TCITx will rise over 5.57 hectares and handle up to 160,000 passengers and 5,200 vehicles daily. — Ashley Erika O. Jose
