PETALING JAYA: A 27-year-old swimming coach has been arrested by police, who also seized RM6.8 million worth of drugs, during enforcement action in Melaka and Johor.
Jasin police chief Lee Robert said the suspect was arrested in Melaka yesterday morning, where MDMA and ketamine, weighing 27.5kg and 3.7g, respectively, were discovered in a car he was driving.
“Based on information provided by the suspect, a follow-up raid was conducted with the help of the narcotics division in Johor.
“We were able to identify the place where the drugs were being stored,” he was quoted by Utusan Malaysia as saying.
Robert said the raid in Johor was conducted around 4.50am today at a residential unit in Crescent Bay Suites, Johor Bahru, where police found various types of drugs and equipment, believed to have been used to pack and store the drugs.
He went on to reveal that the suspect, who tested positive for ketamine, was involved in the collection, packing and handling of the drugs.
Robert said police are now in the midst of identifying where the drugs originated from and where it was supposed to be distributed.
Police are also looking into the possible involvement of other suspects.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking.
Robert said the suspect has been remanded for a week.
