Mass Effect: Universe was unfortunately cancelled as BioWare was shut down by EA. The recently leaked trailer brought some insight into what it could have been, and now an insider has shared more details about the state of the game.
BioWare’s demise gave the world a first look at the next Mass Effect game in the form of an in-engine trailer. With the studio’s closure, development on the game was also cancelled, and fans may never get to experience the next instalment. Now, an insider who was involved in the development has shared new info that makes the game’s cancellation even more unfortunate.
As per the latest video posted by Dantics on YouTube, Mass Effect: Universe was much further along the development process than what EA claimed. The game looked incredible, Dantics says, as it was being made for the original fans of the franchise. The small team was actually a positive for the development as their individual passion for the franchise came through.
Some of the details about the game included the timeline, story arc, and combat. The game was set many years after the Reaper War, but the different factions, including Krogan, Batarian, Humanity, and Geth, were more allied in a Cold War kind of sense. The protagonist was meant to be a customizable N7 agent, and the game was meant to be a mix of John Wick and James Bond with brutal combat and finishers.
Players would have been able to hack and interact with the environment similar to Cyberpunk 2077. Mass Effect: Universe was also meant to be grittier, darker, and for adults. It would have had some of the best facial animations and motion capture in any BioWare game, and it could have been the start of a new trilogy.
Dantics then goes on to share his opinion on why BioWare was shut down and cites corporate greed, as well as woke politics, as the major reasons. Check out the video below to find out more.
