Foreign Office on Friday rejected remarks by Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh threatening military action against Pakistan, warning that such rhetoric reflected New Delhi’s hegemonic approach and posed risks to regional peace and stability.
Singh had said on Thursday that any new terrorist activity originating from Pakistan would trigger a military strike larger than the previous one.
Responding to the remarks during his weekly press briefing, FO spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan said Pakistan condemned the statements as provocative and warned against any threat of Indian aggression.
He recalled the military confrontation between the two countries in May last year, saying Pakistan had demonstrated its ability and determination to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity by delivering a strong response to Indian aggression.
The spokesperson stressed that Pakistan remained fully prepared to counter any miscalculated military action, adding that its commitment to peace and restraint should not be interpreted as weakness.
He warned that any aggression against Pakistan would be met with a forceful response.
Haider urged India to learn from last year’s confrontation, abandon its hostile rhetoric and adopt a responsible approach to help ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.
