After a blockbuster run at the box office, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is coming home. The adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek poem, which grossed USD 1.78 billion at the global box office, will be released on digital platforms and physical home video formats on November 17 in the US.
Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that The Odyssey will be available on digital platforms, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD, allowing viewers to watch the film at home along with previously unseen material and behind-the-scenes content.
Universal said the home release would arrive months before the film’s streaming debut, which is expected in 2027.
The home release will feature more than 90 minutes of special content, including behind-the-scenes footage, interviews with cast and crew, and the film’s IMAX-exclusive prologue. Some bonus features will be available exclusively on physical editions.
The special features include Plotting A Course, which examines Nolan’s adaptation of the epic; On Location, documenting the cast and crew's work across challenging locations; and The Fall of Troy, which explores the construction of the film’s expansive Moroccan set.
Other segments will focus on the creation of the Trojan Horse, the depiction of Odysseus’ home in Ithaca, the film’s action sequences and the visual effects used to bring its fantastical elements to life.
The release will also include The Score, featuring composer Ludwig Göransson discussing the music, and Bringing It Home, which examines the film's editing and sound design.
Additional material includes an interview with Nolan about the journey of film after shooting, trailers, a music video for When I’m Home by James Blake, Travis Scott and Göransson, and the IMAX-exclusive prologue.
Written and directed by Nolan, The Odyssey stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o and Samantha Morton, alongside Zendaya and Charlize Theron. The supporting cast includes John Leguizamo, Jon Bernthal, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, Elliot Page and Benny Safdie.
The story follows the epic journey of Odysseus as he attempts to return home after the Trojan War, drawing on Homer's classical poem.
The Odyssey has emerged as the second-highest grossing film of the year, behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
