Julianne Moore‘s Bottega Veneta dress brought a healthy dose draping, contrasting textures and a modern take on dark glamour to the closing night premiere of “The Debut” at the 2026 BFI London Film Festival at the Royal Festival Hall on Sunday night.
The Oscar-winning actress turned to a design by the Italian luxury fashion label’s creative director Louise Trotter for her look, wearing a black maxidress with a halter neckline and contrasting fabric. The sleek, modern look, nodded to some elements of the dark glamour trend.
But while the red carpet aesthetic often incorporates Victorian era and Gothic design cues like lace, long sleeves and high necklines, among other details, Moore’s Bottega Veneta dress offered a more contemporary interpretation.
Most notably, the sleeveless bodice featured a shift silhouette — a looser fit that gave way to a contrasting leather-look panel at the hips. A small gold button added another contrasting touch to the dress, while the maxiskirt flowed in a column style silhouette to the red carpet.
For glam, Moore’s chestnut red hair was styled by Halley Brisker, with makeup courtesy of artist Kay Montano. The actress’ entire look was curated by award-winning stylist Kate Young, who also works with Dakota Johnson and styled Scarlett Johansson for the London Film Festival as well.
Moore has had a close relationship with Bottega Veneta since 2024, attending several collection presentations for the Italian luxury brand, appearing in campaigns and regularly wearing designs from the label on the red carpet. “I feel like it’s a brand that I’m really deeply aligned with,” Moore told WWD of Bottega Veneta in October 2025.
“First of all, I do love craft. I really, really appreciate things that are built by hand and have that kind of personality and that human touch. And so that’s sort of what their whole brand is about. And I just love the aesthetic. It’s really modern. It’s very simple. There’s a lot of creativity in the clothes, in the designs that they present, but I also find it easy for me to wear. I’m attracted to it. I’m attracted to the clothes themselves.”
In return for her praise, creative director Louise Trotter said Moore “embodies what Bottega Veneta has always stood for: authenticity, individuality and a quiet magnetism that never needs to announce itself.”
Written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg, Moore stars in “The Debut,” which follows an unassuming housewife who finds herself cast in a leading role for a community theater production. The film hits theaters Dec. 18.
