Huawei could launch its next foldable phone, the Mate X8, as early as next month. The company unveiled the Mate X7 in November last year. Now, a new rumor from China has revealed the possible launch timeline and key specifications of its successor.
The Mate X8 is expected to feature a 6.5-inch cover display and an 8.15-inch inner folding screen. It could also bring major camera upgrades, including a 50MP main camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor and variable aperture. Additionally, the phone may include a 50MP periscope telephoto camera.
Battery capacity could be another major upgrade. According to the leak, the Mate X8 will pack a battery rated at least 6,000mAh. This would give it a larger battery than its predecessor, although Huawei has yet to confirm the specifications.
The foldable phone is also rumored to use the Kirin 9050 and Kirin 9050 Pro chipsets. Different versions of the Mate X8 will reportedly use one of these processors. However, details about their performance and other hardware differences remain unclear.
Another rumored addition is a privacy display feature. Similar technology debuted on the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra earlier this year. It limits screen visibility from certain viewing angles to help protect private information. However, it is not yet clear whether Huawei will offer this feature on both Mate X8 displays or just one.
If these leaks prove accurate, the Mate X8 will offer several upgrades over the Mate X7. These include slightly larger displays, newer processors, a bigger battery, and the addition of a Privacy Display feature. Huawei has not officially confirmed these details, so more changes could emerge before the launch.
