Outgoing Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA) President Tuma Adama Gento-Kamara’s name is missing from the provisional list of eligible voters ahead of the Association’s elections scheduled for Monday, 26 October 2026.
The 429-member list, signed by Caretaker Body Chairman Osman I. Kanu Esq. and published on 22 October, also excludes former Public Relations Officer Alfred Kamanda and several other members of the previous executive.
The Caretaker Body has given members until 5 p.m. on Saturday, 24 October, to verify their details at the Bar Secretariat and report missing names, duplicate entries or other errors before the final register is issued.
The eligibility requirements provide that only members who paid their conference and subscription fees on or before 29 May 2026, and possess original bank slips as proof of payment, can vote or stand for election. The requirements follow a High Court order issued on 23 July 2026.
Gento-Kamara is seeking a second term, with the Association’s Administrator and Registrar-General, Martina Baindu Egbenda, also contesting for the presidency. Egbenda appears on the provisional voters’ list at number 264.
A lawyer who spoke to SierraEye suggested that Gento-Kamara’s omission could leave Egbenda as the only presidential contender. However, the final register remains subject to verification, and nominations will be received at Monday’s meeting.
The elections will take place during the SLBA’s Annual General Meeting at 3 p.m. on Monday, 26 October, at the Freetown International Conference Centre, Bintumani, Aberdeen, Freetown.
Seven positions are up for election: president, vice president, general secretary, assistant secretary general, treasurer, assistant treasurer and public relations officer.
The final list of eligible voters and candidates is expected to become clearer after the verification process and the receipt of nominations at the meeting.
