October the 16th, 2026 – The former Croatian Roads (Hrvatske ceste) boss Josip Škorić has been convicted of taking bribes, but in expected fashion, he will be spared any prison time.
Josip Škorić has been finally convicted of taking bribes after reaching a plea agreement with USKOK. He was sentenced to 11 months in prison, which he won’t even serve given that it was replaced by community service. Morski reports that in addition, Škorić received a fine of 15,000 euros. He must also return 6,000 euros, which, according to the charges, was the value of the bribes he received.
He was convicted of accepting bribes in the form of paid dinners, plane tickets and other benefits. The verdict was handed down after the other defendants in the same corruption case were also convicted last week, likewise on the basis of plea agreements with USKOK.
he is still employed by croatian roads!
Over the past two years, Škorić found himself under USKOK investigation in two separate cases, N1 reports. First, in August 2024, he suddenly resigned as president of the Management Board of Hrvatske ceste, only to be arrested a month later on suspicion that he had favoured the company Osijek Koteks, linked to his relative Zoran Škorić, in the awarding of contracts.
A separate indictment was recently filed in that case, and (unsurprisingly) Škorić denies any guilt. The second case, the one in which he has now been convicted, was launched in June 2025, when the police and USKOK arrested him again on suspicion of taking bribes. Despite the arrests and criminal proceedings, Škorić has remained employed at Hrvatske ceste, as an adviser to the Management Board.
