SHILLONG, Oct 16: School funding, infrastructure gaps, and the rollout of the National Education Policy (NEP) will take centre stage when representatives of aided, unaided, permitted, and recognised schools across the Khasi and Jaintia Hills meet in Shillong on October 20.
Convened by the Meghalaya Schools Welfare Development Association Central Body (MSWDA-CB), the general meeting will deliberate on issues confronting local institutions, including government grants, the formal status of unaided lower and upper primary schools, and calls to relax pupil-teacher ratio requirements under the Right to Education (RTE) Act.
The meeting is scheduled for 11:30 am at the Khasi National Dorbar Hall. Attendees will also review a memorandum submitted by the association to the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Union Ministry of Education regarding NEP implementation and broader school education reforms.
Other points on the agenda include strengthening foundational-stage education, school infrastructure deficits, student enrolment criteria, composite school and uniform grants, and operational issues surrounding the PM-POSHAN scheme.
The forum will also take up the CM-IMPACT PLUS Grant-in-Aid Scheme for secondary and higher secondary schools, approved by the state Cabinet on September 15.
While the agenda focuses heavily on funding and official recognition, the association’s notice did not detail the specific policy changes or financial relief it plans to seek on each count.
The meeting is expected to draw principals, head teachers, assistant teachers, institutional heads, and School Management Committee (SMC) members from across the region. Resolutions adopted at the end of the session will determine the association’s formal representations to the state and central governments.
