THESSALONIKI, October 2026 — A prosecutor has charged the 45-year-old driver in the Evosmos taverna crash, in which a car drove into tables and injured three customers early on Sunday, reports said.
The charges are dangerous driving, causing bodily harm by negligence on multiple counts and driving under the influence of alcohol. Authorities referred the man to the Single-Member Misdemeanours Court for a summary trial.
He remains in custody until the trial, reports said, and the court has not yet heard the case.
The car entered the taverna in Evosmos, a western suburb of Thessaloniki, at about 1:10am on Sunday. It knocked over tables and struck customers, according to reports.
Of the three people hurt in the Evosmos taverna crash, two have left hospital, reports said. However, one man remains in hospital, although his life is not in danger.
Eyewitnesses said planters around the taverna then stopped the car.
Following the Evosmos taverna crash, a breath test found that the driver had consumed alcohol above the legal limit, reports said. Two successive breath readings reportedly showed 0.77 and 0.74 mg/l.
