KUANTAN: A restaurant manager and an assistant claimed trial in the Sessions Court here today to nine counts of criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM58,400.30.
Siti Norsuzuanie Ali, 29, and Muhammad Zulhilmi Ahyauddin, 24, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read out to them before judge Sazlina Safie.
The duo were jointly charged with misappropriating money for their own use without the company's authorisation by manipulating refund transactions involving 1,199 receipts in the restaurant's system.
The nine charges involved transactions totalling RM58,400.30, allegedly committed at a restaurant in Pekan between January and September this year, between 9am and 10pm.
The charges were framed under Section 408 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of between one and 14 years, whipping and a fine upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Azizah Ahmad proposed bail of RM30,000 for each accused, with additional conditions that they surrender their passports, refrain from interfering with witnesses and report to the nearest police station once a month.
Lawyer Datuk Zaharman Zainal Abidin, representing both accused, sought a lower bail amount.
Sazlina set bail at RM9,000 for each accused, subject to the additional conditions, and fixed Nov 23 for mention.
