The UEFA Champions League returns with Matchday 2 of the 2026/27 league phase, as Europe’s leading clubs look to build on their opening performances and strengthen their positions in the race for a place in the knockout phase.
A total of 18 matches will be played across Tuesday, October 13, and Wednesday, October 14, with Barcelona, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester City among the teams in action.
Barcelona travel to Turkey to face Galatasaray, while Manchester United visit Atlético Madrid in one of Tuesday’s standout fixtures. Meanwhile, Wednesday’s schedule features a heavyweight clash between Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, alongside Real Madrid’s trip to Roma.
Barcelona will look to maintain their impressive start when they take on Galatasaray away from home. The Spanish side opened their campaign with a commanding 5-1 victory over Feyenoord, giving them an early boost in the league-phase standings.
However, the trip to Turkey presents a different challenge. Galatasaray will be eager to respond after losing 3-1 to Sporting CP in their opening match, with home advantage offering them an opportunity to bounce back against one of Europe’s leading sides.
Elsewhere, Manchester United face a difficult assignment away to Atlético Madrid as they seek to build on their opening victory. United began their campaign with a 4-0 win over Sabah, but this encounter represents a considerably tougher test against opponents known for their defensive organisation and intensity.
Atlético, meanwhile, will be looking to recover from a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool in their opening fixture. Both sides will therefore have plenty to prove, with United needing to demonstrate that their strong start can translate into success against established European opposition away from home.
Last year finalists Arsenal will also be looking to maintain their momentum when they host Lille on Tuesday. The Gunners opened their campaign with a 1-0 victory away to Napoli and will now aim to secure another three points in front of their home supporters.
Lille, however, will be determined to respond after suffering a 3-2 defeat to Real Betis in their first match.
Meanwhile, Inter Milan welcome Club Brugge, while Bayern Munich travel to face Viking FK. RB Leipzig host PSV Eindhoven, and Villarreal take on Napoli.
Tuesday’s action begins at 4:45 p.m. with Lens against Sporting CP and Sabah against Slavia Prague, before the remaining seven fixtures kick off at 7:00 p.m.
Attention then turns to Wednesday, October 14, when Manchester City host Paris Saint-Germain in arguably the standout fixture of Matchday 2.
City began their campaign with a 2-0 away victory over Porto, while PSG produced an emphatic 6-1 win against Slovan Bratislava.
Although both teams made convincing starts, Wednesday’s meeting is expected to provide a much sterner examination of their quality.
Another major fixture on Wednesday sees Real Madrid travel to Italy to face Roma. Madrid opened their campaign with a 2-1 victory over Inter.
Roma, on the other hand, drew 1-1 away to Fenerbahçe and will be eager to turn that result into a victory in front of their home supporters.
Elsewhere, Liverpool travel to face LASK after beginning their campaign with a 2-1 victory over Atlético Madrid. Aston Villa, who secured a 3-2 win away to Club Brugge in their opening match, host Fenerbahçe, who drew 1-1 with Roma.
Wednesday’s remaining fixtures see Feyenoord welcome Como, Shakhtar Donetsk meet AEK Athens, Borussia Dortmund travel to face Bodø/Glimt, Real Betis host Porto, and Slovan Bratislava take on Stuttgart.
