MOSCOW, October 25. /TASS/. The European Union is not acting constructively as it keeps talking about appointing negotiators on the Ukrainian conflict but is doing nothing. Brussels either lacks the desire or the resolve to take such a move, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told TASS, commenting on reports of Finnish President Alexander Stubb to be potentially proposed for this role.
"The European Union has long wanted [to appoint a negotiator], but either it cannot, or it cannot bring itself to do so," he said, adding that "this position can hardly be described as constructive."
"For now, they are only talking, and they aren’t taking any action," Peskov noted.
Moscow would support the appointment of a negotiator by the European Union, though it is important to make sure than such an envoy is committed to a peaceful settlement, he stressed.
"It would be good to have a negotiator. It would be even better if that negotiator were someone genuinely committed to facilitating a peaceful settlement," Peskov said.
