Midland, Mich.-based MyMichigan Health is investigating claims of data theft made by a group calling itself MetaEncryptor, though the health system said it has found no evidence of unauthorized access to its systems or compromised patient information.
The health system said in an Oct. 15 statement that it launched an investigation after learning of the allegations and enlisted cybersecurity incident response firm Mandiant to help evaluate the claims. MyMichigan Health is also working with law enforcement.
“Protecting the privacy and security of our patients, employees and communities remains a top priority,” Pankaj Jandwani, MD, system vice president and chief information officer at MyMichigan Health, said in the statement. “We take these allegations seriously and will continue to work with our cybersecurity specialists and law enforcement to evaluate the information available to us.”
According to the health system, the group behind the allegations has not provided evidence, including sample files, to substantiate its claims.
MyMichigan Health said its investigation remains ongoing and that it will continue to assess any credible new information.
