One commenter under last week’s poll made an interesting point – the Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra starts at $1,400 for a 12/256GB model and this is without the keyboard, which is an extra $380. Why not get a MacBook instead?
A 13” MacBook Air with an M5 chipset, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage costs $1,300. The 15” version is $1,500. So, you get a faster chipset, more RAM, more storage and a keyboard for around the same price as the Tab S12 Ultra – less, actually, if you need a keyboard.
13” MacBook Air for $1,300 or a 16” Galaxy Book6 for $1,450
Don’t want to deal with macOS? Why not a Galaxy Book6 with a 16” touchscreen – Samsung US sells them for $1,450. This laptop runs Windows 11 on an Intel Core Ultra 7 355 with 16GB of RAM and 512GB storage. The screen is a 1,920 x 1,200 IPS LCD. The non-touch version is $100 cheaper, but that also drops the CPU to an Intel Core Ultra 5 325.
And if you absolutely must have Android apps, why not a Googlebook laptop? An Acer Googlebook 14 with a 14” 2.8K OLED display, a Core Ultra 5 CPU, 16GB of RAM and 512GB storage is $900.
With all that in mind, we can finally talk about the poll results for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra and we don’t think that the most popular opinion will surprise you – the tablet is too expensive.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra poll results
There are still a number of people that are interested in Samsung’s latest 14.6” tablet, but almost as many would have preferred a smaller offering – Samsung may have missed the mark by not upgrading the vanilla Tab S model every year and we’ll see that more clearly in the next poll.
Not that upgrading the Tab S Ultra models every year makes a ton of sense. One commenter has last year’s Tab S11 Ultra and sees no reason to upgrade – not without features like a 10-bit display panel or larger batteries. The Galaxy tablets did receive some praise as people appreciate that Samsung has kept the microSD slot on its Tab S devices, even though most tablets these days don’t have expandable storage. The Galaxy S phones don’t either.
Moving on to the Samsung Galaxy Tab S12+, the new 12.6” model doesn’t have much to show for itself – people that were in favor of it were narrowly outvoted by the people interested in a tablet that is 11” or smaller. Like we said, maybe Samsung should have built a vanilla Tab S12.
It gets worse. While the larger Ultra model managed to fend off iPad fans, the plus didn’t do as well. The vote was close – 10% want the Tab S12+, 10.2% want a smaller tablet and 9.7% want an iPad.
Of course, these are the people that are even considering the Galaxy Tab S12+, most people just think that it’s overpriced and would rather pick a different Android tablet or, indeed, an iPad. We mentioned the iPads in the poll article. An 11” iPad Pro starts at $1,200 and the 13” model starts at $1,500. For comparison, the base Tab S12+ sells for $1,200.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S12+ poll results
Time will eventually whittle down the prices of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S12 duo. Then they may start looking more appealing. However, right now you have to really want specifically the Tab S12+ or the Tab S12 Ultra to buy one. And then only if you want to use them as a tablet, since the Ultra keyboard cover alone is worth 40% or so of a good laptop.
