Bollywood actor Imran Khan, his girlfriend Lekha Washington and cousin Zayn Mary have been released from police custody in Mumbai, hours after they were detained by police for taking part in a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
They were detained on Saturday. They confirmed their safe return home on social media after their release.
Videos and photos circulating on social media around 4:00pm on Saturday showed Imran, Lekha and Zain being taken away in a police van.
There was some uncertainty about where they were being kept. Lekha Washington announced the release by posting a video reel on Instagram on Saturday night.
She later shared the moment of their safe return home on her Instagram story.
However, Lekha complained that they faced problems getting cabs to return home after their release. She said that cab drivers were not willing to take them due to fear of police threats.
