On Monday, the NFL world woke up to the shocking news that Jalen Hurts developed blood clots in his lungs. As a result, he will miss the rest of the season.
Questions are circulating about what contributed to the beloved Eagles’ QB suffering a life-threatening and certainly career-threatening affliction. The affliction stemmed from a calf injury sustained in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Rams. However, the Eagles let Hurts play in London during Week 5, despite an ultrasound revealing a blood clot in his calf.
The Eagles were cleared of any wrongdoing, but the NFLPA is pushing for a full investigation into the matter while criticizing the NFL, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network/ESPN.

“The NFLPA is not aware of any NFL investigation into the medical care provided to Jalen Hurts. In fact, the league previously informed the union that it did not plan to review the care he received. Before conclusions are drawn about how this situation was handled, there must be a full investigation into what occurred. Determining the facts is essential to ensuring players receive the highest level of care and protection going forward.”
Typically, the NFL’s concussion protocol takes weeks to resolve. The NFL’s quick closure on this matter raises questions.
Hurt is the face of the Eagles, who won Super Bowl LIX in February 2025. He was named the Super Bowl MVP and was selected to 3 Pro Bowls in 2022, 2023, and 2026.
Other notable athletes who have experienced blood clots include Chris Bosh, Serena Williams, Victor Wembanyama, and Damien Lillard.
