TAP Air Portugal has expanded its partnership with Swedish payment technology company Klarna, allowing passengers in four additional markets to pay for flights in instalments.
Following the introduction of the service in Portugal, the airline has now extended the payment options to Spain, France, Italy and the United States.
Passengers booking tickets directly through TAP’s official website in these countries can choose to split the cost into three interest-free instalments, pay the full amount immediately or, for more expensive long-haul journeys, explore longer-term financing options.
The initiative aims to provide travellers with greater flexibility when planning and paying for their trips, particularly when booking flights involving higher costs.
According to Inês Fiúza Marques, Klarna’s Country Manager in Portugal, flexible payment solutions are particularly relevant for larger purchases, such as holidays and international travel.
The company believes that allowing customers to spread payments over time can make it easier to manage household budgets and plan travel expenditure.
João Frias, responsible for TAP’s payment strategy, said the partnership forms part of the airline’s ongoing digital modernisation programme.
He explained that integrating additional payment methods responds to changing consumer expectations, particularly the growing demand for greater control over travel budgets.
The expansion comes as airlines prepare for the winter travel season and the Christmas and New Year holidays, traditionally busy periods for flight bookings.
By extending Klarna’s services to four important international markets, TAP hopes to make the booking process more convenient and accessible to passengers travelling between Portugal, Europe and North America.
The new payment options are available for eligible purchases made directly through TAP’s website.
