Fi Wi Land: Beyond the duppy stories, discover the value of Jamaica’s bats

Often misunderstood and surrounded by folklore, bats are among nature’s hardest-working environmental protectors, helping to control insect populations, pollinate plants and disperse seeds. Discover more about these fascinating creatures as the Jamaica Observer in association with the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) premieres ‘Fi Wi Land’ on Monday.

In the debut episode, host Carlysia Ramdeen is joined by NEPA Environmental Officer Damany Calder who shares insights about bats, their importance to Jamaica’s ecosystems and why they deserve greater appreciation.

The new 12-week environmental series by the Jamaica Observer and NEPA explores Jamaica’s unique wildlife, ecosystems and natural resources while highlighting efforts to protect the island’s environment for future generations.

Catch the premiere on the Jamaica Observer’s YouTube channel and other digital platforms.
