THE RM2,000 minimum wage scheduled for implementation in June 2027, the registration of Myanmar refugees and Malaysia’s response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza are among the key issues facing the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday.
According to the Order Paper on Parliament’s official portal, Aminolhuda Hassan (PH-Sri Gading) will ask the Economy Minister during Minister’s Question Time (MQT) what mechanisms the government will put in place to ensure the minimum wage does not lead to job losses, price increases or higher operating costs for small businesses.
Jimmy Puah Wee Tse (PH-Tebrau) will ask the Home Minister about the targets and implementation timeline for registering Myanmar refugees under the Refugee Registration Document (DPP) Programme over the next two years, including the number expected to be registered.
Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman (PN-Sik) will ask the Foreign Minister to outline Malaysia’s strategic response to three years of genocide in Gaza, particularly measures to strengthen protection for Palestinians, facilitate humanitarian aid, pursue international accountability and support Gaza’s reconstruction.
During the oral question-and-answer session, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (PN-Kubang Kerian) will seek details from the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister on the additional net electricity generation capacity expected to be operational by 2030 and the capacity committed through power supply agreements with data centres.
Ahmad Johnie Zawawi (GPS-Igan) will ask the Education Minister about the number of Sarawakian reserve teacher candidates awaiting appointment, teaching vacancies by subject specialisation and plans to absorb the candidates into the education service.
Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa (BN-Tampin) will seek an update from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister on the study into specific legislation to tackle ticket scalping, including legal gaps that currently hamper enforcement.
After the question-and-answer session, the Dewan Rakyat will continue debating the Supply Bill 2027 at the policy stage, following its tabling by Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last Friday.
According to the calendar for the Third Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament, the policy-stage debate on Budget 2027 is scheduled to run from Oct 12 to 22, followed by four days of ministerial winding-up from Oct 26. - October 13, 2026
