The New York Jets were finally able to stop their bleeding in Week 5. After three consecutive losses, Geno Smith and company stopped the surging Cleveland Browns in a 17-12 victory at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Sunday. Prior to that, Cleveland was on a three-game winning streak.
The win also represents New York’s first home win in the 2026 NFL season. They lost their first try at home to the Green Bay Packers in Week 2 before losing back-to-back games on the road in Week 3 and Week 4 against the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears, respectively.
But for veteran linebacker Demario Davis, the win against Cleveland means even more.\
“I would go as far as to say this was a historic win for this organization,” the 37-year-old Davis said after the game, via Rich Cimini of ESPN.
Jets Defense Shines as Team Ends Skid With Huge Week 5 Win Against The Browns

Historic or not, the Jets got the job done against Cleveland and are now back in the win column.
Davis and the New York’s defense suffocated Cleveland’s attack all game long. Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson went just 15/33 for 155 passing yards. He had a touchdown and had zero interceptions, but he was sacked eight times for a loss of 53 yards.
New York’s offense wasn’t excellent either, but the Jets did just enough on that end of the field to come away with a win. Geno Smith passed for 182 yards and a touchdown without an interception on 17/30 pass completions. Running back Braelon Allen torched Cleveland’s defense for 116 rushing yards and a touchdown on 24 carries, while wide receiver Garrett Wilston had 104 receiving yards and a touchdown on seven catches and 11 targets.
But the biggest star of the night for New York could be rookie linebacker David Bailey, who recorded three sacks and seven total tackles.
The 2-3 Jets now look to get back to .500 when they take on the New England Patriots in Week 6 on the road.
