Washington, DC.- Foreign Minister Víctor “Ito” Bisonó presented five areas of action to strengthen cooperation between the United States and Caribbean countries during the opening of the U.S.-Caribbean Dialogue on Thursday at the U.S. State Department in Washington.
Bisonó proposed promoting regional energy security projects, turning economic diplomacy into new investments and productive partnerships, protecting strategic infrastructure through cybersecurity, cargo traceability and port security, strengthening joint responses to natural disasters and health emergencies, and intensifying efforts against drug trafficking, narco-terrorism, transnational crime and illicit arms trafficking.
The dialogue, convened by the U.S. State Department, brought together Caribbean government representatives and U.S. officials to discuss security, energy, economic growth and strategic infrastructure. Bisonó attended alongside Dominican Defense Minister Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre and Dominican Ambassador to the United States María Isabel Castillo.
Bisonó’s participation is part of an official visit to Washington from October 14 to 17, which also includes meetings with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Organization of American States Secretary General Albert Ramdin.
