A Nigerian woman, Juliet Sunday Claire, has appealed for justice following the death of her younger brother, who she alleged died in police custody in Ogun State after being arrested over an accusation of plantain theft.
In an emotional account shared publicly, Claire said she learnt on Tuesday evening, October 20, 2026, that her brother was at a morgue in Ogun State.
She said her brother had travelled to the state to attend to his farm, while their mother also owned farmland in the area.
According to her, she immediately travelled to Ogun State after receiving the news, seeking to establish what had happened to her brother.

Claire alleged that she was informed that her brother had been arrested on Saturday, October 17, and taken to a police cell, where he subsequently died.
She expressed shock that the family had allegedly not been informed of his arrest, adding that she had spoken with him a few days before the incident.
The grieving sister further claimed that when she visited the police station to inquire about the circumstances surrounding his death, she was told that he had been arrested following an allegation that he stole plantains.
She said she had asked to bail her brother and wanted to know the offence he had allegedly committed.
According to Claire, the officers told her to take heart, claiming that her brother had taken his own life while in custody.
However, she said the family had yet to receive a satisfactory explanation of the circumstances surrounding his death.
She also alleged that her brother had been taken to the morgue without the presence of any family member.
Describing the loss as devastating, Claire said her father was deceased and her mother was struggling to cope with the tragedy.
She appealed to the authorities and members of the public to help establish what happened to her brother and ensure that justice was served.
The allegations have not been independently verified.
The circumstances surrounding the man’s arrest and death, including the police account of what happened in custody, remain unclear.
The Ogun State Police Command’s response to the allegations was not included in Claire’s account.
The family is seeking answers over the man’s arrest, the cause of his death and the circumstances under which his body was transferred to the morgue.
