…Celebrates Ijaw leader on birthday
The Host Communities Producing Oil, Gas and Pipeline-Impacted States Youth Council of Nigeria (HOSTCON Youth Council) has celebrated High Chief Dr. Akpos Mezeh Andy, describing him as a committed advocate of Ijaw interests and Niger Delta development.
The council congratulated Dr. Andy, General Manager, Community Relations and Consultant at Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL), on his birthday, commending his contributions to the Ijaw struggle and the development of oil and gas host communities.
In a congratulatory statement issued in Abuja and made available to journalists via email, the council’s spokesperson, Snr. Comr. Emmanuel Fiawei Pathfinder, popularly known as Gen. Osama, described the celebrant as an outstanding patriot, senior comrade and pioneer leader of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC).
The council praised Dr. Andy’s longstanding commitment to the struggle for self-determination, resource control, social justice and the socio-economic advancement of the Ijaw people.
It particularly acknowledged his leadership as Chairman of the Ijaw Youth Council, Western Zone, and his pioneering role in mobilising Ijaw youths in the United Kingdom diaspora.
The statement also recalled his role in mobilising Ijaw sons and daughters in solidarity with the late former Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha, during a critical period in the Niger Delta struggle.
According to the council, Dr. Andy’s advocacy reflected the determination of the Ijaw people to demand justice, equitable resource control and an end to the marginalisation of oil and gas-producing communities.
It also commended his contributions to community relations and development through his work at PINL, particularly in promoting employment opportunities, youth and women empowerment, scholarships, community infrastructure and the welfare of host-community indigenes.
The council said the initiatives had contributed to efforts to promote sustainable development and strengthen relations between oil and gas companies and their host communities.
It added that his commitment to the socio-economic advancement of the Niger Delta underscored the importance of promoting peace, progress and prosperity across the region.
The council described the birthday celebration as an opportunity to recognise Dr. Andy’s contributions to the Ijaw Nation, oil and gas host communities and the Niger Delta at large.
It prayed for renewed strength, good health, divine wisdom and greater accomplishments for the celebrant as he continued to contribute to peace, development and humanity.
The council wished him a happy birthday, describing him as a distinguished patriot and a proud son of the Ijaw Nation and the Niger Delta
