Lamine Yamal continued his remarkable start to the season despite Barcelona’s 2-4 Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, scoring at the Parc des Princes to reach 20 goal contributions across all competitions.
With El Clasico against Real Madrid approaching, the Barcelona winger is combining prolific output with creative influence at a rate rarely seen at his age.
Notably, the 19-year-old’s latest goal also brought him level with Kylian Mbappe’s record of 13 Champions League goals before turning 20, showing his growing impact on European football’s biggest stage.
Yamal reaches 20 goal contributions for Barcelona
Yamal’s goal against PSG was another example of his technical quality, with the winger finding the net through an exquisite toe-poke finish.
It took his season tally to 10 goals, while his 10 assists brought his total involvement to 20 of Barcelona’s 50 goals.
That means Yamal has contributed directly to 40% of the team’s goals this season.

To put it in perspective, there is no precedent for a Barcelona player reaching a 10-goal, 10-assist split this early in a season, not even Lionel Messi, who recorded 25 goal contributions in the 2011-12 campaign, with 16 goals and nine assists.
Barcelona number 10 draws level with Mbappe
Yamal’s European numbers provide another measure of his progress.
After scoring against PSG, he has registered 13 goals and 13 assists in 36 Champions League appearances, matching Mbappe’s record of 13 goals in the competition before his 20th birthday.
The comparison places Yamal alongside one of the most productive forwards of his generation at the same stage of their careers.
However, their records reflect different attacking profiles, with Yamal’s assist tally highlighting the creative dimension of his game alongside his finishing.
At his current rate, the Barcelona teenager has a strong opportunity to move beyond Mbappe’s benchmark before turning 20.

Indeed, Barcelona will be disappointed by the result in Paris, but Yamal’s performance offered an important positive ahead of the meeting with Real Madrid.
His ability to create and score makes him one of Flick’s most influential attacking players, particularly when opponents concentrate their defensive efforts on limiting his space.
The challenge now is to test that brilliance against the strongest opposition.
PSG exposed Barcelona’s defensive weaknesses, but Yamal demonstrated that the team still possesses the attacking quality to trouble elite sides.
With El Clasico approaching, Real Madrid will have to account for a winger who is producing goals and assists at an exceptional rate.
