Two individuals have been arrested with 20 lobsters suspected of being illegally caught while being prepared for sale near Haraspola Fisheries Harbour in Brahmanawatta, the Sri Lanka Coast Guard said.
The arrests were made during an intelligence-led operation conducted by the Coast Guard.
According to the Coast Guard, the suspects were apprehended for allegedly violating Section 34 of the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Act, No. 2 of 1996, and regulations prohibiting lobster fishing during October.
The suspects and the seized lobsters were taken into custody for further investigation and legal action.
The operation was part of ongoing efforts to prevent illegal fishing and protect the country’s marine resources, the Coast Guard said. (Newswire)
