After hoping that rain would magically dry at an unheard of rate and that a weather system clearly hanging around for a day would miraculously dissipate at a wave of Rob Manfred’s wizard staff, MLB has announced that game four will now be tomorrow at 8PM ET and game five will be Sunday, 5PM ET.
If you had tickets for tonight, they are now good for Sunday. Will MLB/the Guardians offer you a voucher for a future regular season game like the Rays have for fan who bought playoff tickets early only to see their prices drop later? No. They most assuredly will not. But, remember to say “Please, sir, may I have some more?” not to complain.
How much of MLB’s procrastination on this was avoiding competing with Sunday’s NFL games? Methinks… a lot. The league had a check-in this morning at 10AM when the forecast was terrible and rain was falling. They had another check-in at 6PM ET when rain had fallen for hours and it was clear they could not play and they kept hoping something would change. Nothing did. As numerous reporters on the sport have noted, MLB does all they can to avoid competing with the NFL in their marquee events.
Time for Guardians fans to put this ridiculousness behind us. Time for the Guardians to lock in on winning baseball games. Time for me to go to bed because I do not feel well. Let’s go get ’em tomorrow and show them they can’t stop us from rooting on this amazing team.
