The proposal ‘Migla’, submitted by the architectural practice SIA ‘NOONSOON’ and the landscape architecture practice SIA ‘Nemoralis’, has been recognised as the best entry in the design competition for the development of Central Station Square in Rīga, according to information on the tender website.
The aim of the competition was to obtain a solution for the reconstruction of the pavilion and the redevelopment of the adjacent area.
The total area of the project site is approximately 1,850 m², whilst the study area covers almost 10,000 m². The competition brief called for a solution that combines the commercially viable use of the pavilion with a high-quality, people-friendly public outdoor space, well-considered organisation of pedestrian flow, sustainable landscaping and a distinctive architectural identity appropriate to the site.
A total of nine design proposals were submitted to the competition, which were assessed by an inter-institutional jury chaired by architect Jānis Dripe. All entries submitted to the open design competition are on display on the 2nd floor of the “Origo” shopping centre until the end of this year.
