The Livestock and Livelihoods Development Project (LLDP) and the Sierra Leone Agricultural Research Institute (SLARI) have concluded a two-day training programme aimed at helping livestock farmers produce their own animal feed and reduce disputes with crop farmers.
The training, held at the Teko Livestock Research Centre in Bombali District, equipped participants with practical knowledge of growing and managing fodder crops to ensure a sustainable supply of feed for livestock.
The initiative aims to improve animal feeding practices and promote responsible livestock management, helping to address tensions between crop farmers and livestock owners.
Speaking during the training, District Agricultural Officer Lamin Bogba highlighted the longstanding disagreements between the two groups and stressed the importance of applying practical agricultural knowledge to prevent disputes and promote peaceful coexistence.
Bogba urged participants to put the skills acquired into practice and share the knowledge with other farmers in their communities. He described them as ambassadors responsible for promoting the lessons learned.
The collaboration between LLDP and SLARI seeks to improve livestock production, strengthen farmers’ livelihoods and encourage sustainable agricultural practices that contribute to food security and peaceful relationships among farming communities.
