Colton Hood moved to full participation Thursday. For a Giants secondary still dealing with several unresolved injuries, that was a meaningful improvement.
The rookie cornerback had been limited Wednesday with a concussion. The team’s updated Week 7 injury report lists him as a full participant Thursday, while Greg Newsome II remained a nonparticipant for a second consecutive day.
It is important to keep those practice categories in their proper place. The update documents more participation for Hood. It does not, by itself, announce his final medical clearance or guarantee that he will dress against the Texans.
New York hadn’t published Friday game designations when this article was prepared. Any definitive statement about Sunday’s cornerback lineup would get ahead of the available information.
The Giants have three different recovery stages
The Giants’ depth chart lists Hood behind Newsome at one outside corner position. His availability becomes especially relevant while the veteran remains out of practice. Hood has appeared in five games with two starts, according to his NFL player record.

Paulson Adebo is also practicing, but his status is different. The Giants designated him to return from injured reserve Wednesday, opening his practice window; he remained limited with a knee injury Thursday. Beginning that process isn’t the same as being activated to the roster.
Those distinctions prevent a misleadingly simple conclusion that the Giants have suddenly restored their cornerback depth. One player improved his practice participation, another remained sidelined, and a third is working through an IR return. None of those steps should be substituted for another.
0What do you think?Post a comment. The opponent won’t make an unsettled secondary’s job easier. The Giants’ weekly tracker noted that Houston coach DeMeco Ryans expects Tank Dell to return Sunday after his lengthy recovery from a serious knee injury. Dell’s expected return adds another preparation task, though his workload and any matchup with Hood remain unsettled.
For the Giants, Thursday’s result is encouraging because it moves one potential answer forward. The next information that matters is the final injury report, any announced activation and the game-day roster. Until those arrive, full participation is good news worth reporting accurately, without turning it into an all-clear the team hasn’t issued.
