The NFL season is quickly becoming a nightmare for the Washington Commanders, and quarterback Jayden Daniels’ alarming winless streak is raising further questions about head coach Dan Quinn’s future.
Daniels, the 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year, enjoyed tremendous success during his debut season, winning 12 regular-season games and two playoff contests before Washington fell to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game.

However, the Commanders have struggled to replicate that success. Since their playoff defeat, Daniels has won just two games, both coming during the 2025 season. His last victory was a 27-10 win over the Los Angeles Chargers on October 5, 2025, meaning he has now gone more than a calendar year without winning a game.

Daniels’ latest performance ends in another defeat
Daniels delivered an impressive statistical performance against the undefeated San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football, completing 29 of 40 passes for 300 yards and two touchdowns.
Despite his production, Washington suffered a 23-17 defeat, extending its difficult run and dropping to 1-4-1 on the season.
The loss also placed Daniels and Quinn under scrutiny for the second consecutive week. In Week 5, questionable clock management contributed to Washington settling for a 27-27 overtime tie against the New York Giants after the Commanders failed to leave enough time to attempt a potential game-winning field goal.
Against San Francisco, another late-game sequence sparked criticism. Trailing by 10 points, Daniels threw the ball away on fourth down from the 49ers’ 13-yard line, turning possession over to San Francisco.
Quinn also appeared to call for the field-goal unit before seemingly realizing Washington had exhausted its downs, prompting further questions about the team’s sideline communication and decision-making.

Quinn faces growing pressure in Washington

While Daniels’ losing streak is concerning, the Commanders’ struggles cannot be attributed to the quarterback alone. Coaching decisions, execution and late-game management have all contributed to Washington’s disappointing start.
Quinn, who helped guide the franchise to a memorable playoff run in 2024, now faces mounting pressure to find solutions before the season slips further away.
The Commanders will have a bye in Week 7 before returning to action against their division rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, in Week 8. Philadelphia enters the matchup with a 2-4 record.
That game could provide an important opportunity for Washington to reset. However, with Daniels still searching for his first win in more than a year, Quinn’s ability to turn the season around is increasingly under the spotlight.
