The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the trial in the unnatural death of former model Twisha Sharma in a Bhopal sessions court and issued notices to her husband, mother-in-law and the CBI to respond to a plea by the deceased’s family for transferring the proceedings to Delhi.
Twisha’s husband Samarth Singh is an advocate and his mother Giribala Singh a former district judge. The duo are facing charges of abetment to suicide based on the chargesheet filed by the CBI.
The plea for the trial’s transfer from Bhopal to Delhi or any other place was made by Twisha’s father Navnidhi Sharma, who fears the case may not receive a fair trial in Madhya Pradesh given the influence wielded by his daughter’s in-laws.
Twisha, 33, was found hanging at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12, with her family alleging dowry harassment and abetment to suicide. Her in-laws claimed she suffered from drug addiction. The couple got married in December last year.
Samarth and his mother have denied allegations of foul play.
