The rumors of Democrat Senate candidate James Talarico’s self-imposed exile to a mental health clinic appear to have a little more veracity now that an apparent phone call with a facility staffer has been released.
The staffer confirmed that Talarico was at the facility and was discharged shortly before the call.
Current Revolt has the full audio from the conversation here:

So, case closed, right? Maybe not.
There are some oddities that exist in the timeline provided by those who made the apparent call. The person making the call says the conversation occurred on Saturday, October 10, and that Talarico was discharged from the facility that evening. On Friday, October 9, Talarico was present in Austin, Texas at the Austin City Limits festival in his first public appearance in the state in nearly two weeks.

This inconsistency obviously raises a lot of questions. Perhaps the woman on the phone had gotten the date wrong. Perhaps the phone call is completely fabricated. Only James Talarico (or his campaign associates) could provide concrete answers.
Their only response has been to call the story a “lie” and a “conspiracy theory.” Not exactly a solid response when facing a story that has dominated the news cycle for an entire week and when audio, whether real or not, exists that contradicts the campaign’s telling of events. At the same time, they also want to say that the individuals behind the call illegally acquired Talarico’s medical history. It seems hard for both of those things to be true at the same time, doesn’t it?
A simple solution to their problem exists: release the records of Talarico’s supposed visit to a Dallas urgent care clinic. Maybe they can’t, because the timeline that the Talarico campaign offered for this “visit” also has some inconsistencies. The campaign has lied about all of Talarico's political positions, so it's a bit much to expect them to start being honest about this.
They, of course, will not do this even if their telling of events is true. They ignored the story up until this point; why would they stop now? The mainstream media has accepted their word as Gospel and has refused to look deeper into Talarico’s whereabouts during his extended absence from the campaign trail. They have no incentive to give the story any more credence than they already do.
The Talarico campaign faces a problem, though: early voting in Texas begins in just eight days. Election Day is just over three weeks away. Ken Paxton, Republicans, and conservative media are not going to let this story go away without some actual answers. Time is running out for the campaign to set the story straight. The narrative has shifted from Paxton’s history to Talarico’s lack of transparency. This obviously isn’t a position that a vulnerable campaign wants to be in when ballots are about to be cast.
Campaigns operate on a principle of “if you’re explaining, you’re losing,” so don’t count on them trying to do that. But their refusal to do so means this dark cloud will hang over their heads until the die is cast.
