LAZOLA MAKU TO MAMELODI SUNDOWNS
While Maku enjoyed a successful trial in Austria in September, it appears Ka Bo Yellow are set to sign the dumitive mifielder.
“Following an apparently successful trial in Austria, South Africa U20 captain Lazola Maku is closing in on a move to Mamelodi Sundowns, with the newly crowned MTN8 champions expected to sign the midfielder on a free transfer,” SABC Sports’ Mazola Molefe reported.
LONG CAREER AHEAD?
Hailing from the humble parts of Hout Bay’s Masiphumelele township, Maku took his first career steps at the renowned Ubuntu Football Academy. He later caught the eye of SuperSport United.
After several seasons in the DStv Diski Challenge, Maku earned his senior debut with Siwelele FC. Despite his young age, Maku featured in several important league matches, demonstrating his passing ability and versatility as both a defensive midfielder and a deep-lying playmaker.
At international level, the Sundowns-bound star has established himself as a leader, captaining South Africa’s Under-20 national team, Amajita. He captained the national Under-16 side. He later played a key role in South Africa’s historic triumph at the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.
Maku played every minute of the tournament, helping anchor the midfield as South Africa secured the title. His performances earned him a place in the competition’s Best XI.
His international experience also includes representing South Africa at the COSAFA Under-20 Championship. It also includes competing at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup.
